Atherton is a town on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland with a population of 7000+. Atherton is the administrative centre for the Atherton Shire.
Atherton is situated on the Kennedy Highway and has several streams running through its precincts – chief among them is Priors Creek. The town features a golf course, two comprehensive shopping centres, a showground, hospital, swimming pool, information centre, cultural centre and the Tablelands Regional Council.

Atherton is located close to Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands and about a one-and-a-half- hour’s drive from Cairns.
