Description

MySQL is a database engine frequently used in LAMP web site hosting.  LAMP is short for Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP.  The operating system is Linux; the web server used is Apache and the web site is dynamic using the PHP programming language with a MySQL database backend to store information.  MySQL is a popular database engine used in combination with open source content management systems like WordPress and Joomla.

This 2 hour training session will teach you what SQL commands are, how to enter SQL commands directly from the mysql command prompt and how to use the web based mysql user interface named phpMyAdmin to administer MySQL databases.

Lesson plan

The lesson plan covers the following activities:

  1. Introduction to tables, fields, queries.
  2. Introduction to structured query language (SQL).
  3. Word of warning on SQL injection.
  4. Entering SQL statements from the mysql command prompt.
  5. Exploring phpMyAdmin.
  6. Creating tables using phpMyAdmin.
  7. Exporting and importing *.sql files.
  8. A closer look at Joomla and WordPress MySQL databases.
